How to make a Spooky Tiny Halloween House in a Jar
This is the last Haunted Holtzville house for this year - Tiny Halloween House in a Jar.
Materials to make the Tiny Halloween Paper House in a Jar
- Cardboard for the house itself - I think the cardboard they recycle for me from work is similar to this medium weight chipboard
- Tim Holtz Tiny House Die from Sizzix
- Sizzix Village Manor Die
- Tim Holtz Village Cottage Die from Sizzix
- Sizzix Moonlit Owl thinlit Die
- Sizzix Branch Tree Die - retired, but you can still find it online at times. Other options you could use are:
Tim Holtz Sizzix 657833 Bigz Die Bird Branch or Sizzix 663138 Bigz Die, Branches by Tim Holtz - Tim Holtz Village Rooftops
- Distress Paints:
Wilted Violet makes a great rooftop color
Twisted Citron works well for the highlight color
Fossilized Amber - Black Gesso
- Small Jar - I think I recycled a small pickle jar, but you could use an 8 ounce Mason jar
- Idea-ology Vignette Finial Set
- Tim Holtz Halloween Tokens
- Tim Holtz Halloween Idea-ology Word Bands
- Tacky Glue - my favorite
- Crackle Paste
How to Make the Spooky Tiny Halloween House in a Recycled Jar
First I made a quick little tiny house from the Tim Holtz Tiny House die from Sizzix. I checked to make sure that it would fit in a small recycled jar. Then I embellished it with some grey acrylic paint mixed with sand to look like stucco. Next I cut windows from the Village Cottage die because these windows are the perfect size for this little house. Each window is backed with a piece of paper painted with Fossilized Amber distress paint. The door is leftover from the Shimmer and Shine Metallic Village Manor house - it's the inner door that I cut out because it's not needed. The staggered purple roof shingles are offcuts from the one of the Village Rooftop dies.
And then I added a tree made from a section of the Sizzix branch tree and the new Sizzix Moonlit Owl die from Tim Holtz. I had to kind of curl the tree branches a little bit so they would fit in the jar. I made a chimney pipe from rolled paper the same as on the Metallic Village Manor because it was easy and didn't obstruct putting the house in the jar.
To raise the tiny house up above the rim of the jar. I glued it to a circle of painted, corrugated cardboard. Then I glued that to the inside of the jar lid.
To add more height and interest to the Halloween project, I glued 2 decorative finials to the top and bottom of the jar. These finials are painted with crackle paste, then Twisted Citron distress paint. And everything is distressed with Black Soot distress paint to give a little more Halloween look to the project. But remember that in this case the jar is inverted and the top is the bottom and the bottom is the top. You got that, I'm sure.
Also I decorated the finials with 2 Tim Holtz Halloween tokens tied on with black thread. Then I curved a word band to fit the lid, glued it and tied it on with black fuzzy yard.
