Brief Preview of my first Haunted Village Manor

I received my Village Manor die about 2 days ago. I have been diligently working on it since then. I've got the Haunted Manor almost done to complete the halloween village I am calling Holtzville in honor of Tim Holtz who designed all these dies for Sizzix.
Here is a brief preview of the Manor as it exists now. Probably I will finish it tonight or tomorrow. I have to work at a real job sometimes I am afraid. In the meantime, I am really happy with how the house is looking. I need to make the fence, color the back of the tombstones, make a tree of some sort and decide how to do the chimneys.
More info when I get the Haunted Manor all finished with Halloween embellishments.

I love all your houses. Read your whole blog. Can't wait to start creating my own. Thanks for all the tips and tricks.

Wow, this is amazing! My die arrives tomorrow and I was poking around looking for inspiration. I love the peeling paint on the siding - was that using rock candy crackle paint? The shingles are great too. LOVE IT!

Ldybg93, I had such a hard time waiting for the Village Manor die. I actually ordered from 2 different companies in case one got it in faster than the other. When I do my full post on these "Haunted" village I will go in more detail on how I made the houses, but since you asked about the crackle paint on the siding, here's a brief description. I painted a 8.5 x 11' piece of cardboard with black gesso to provide contrast under the crackle paint. Then I actually cut thin strips making sure there was some variation in the width of the boards because I wanted the house to look kind of decrepit. Then I painted the strips with Ranger's Picket Fence Crackle Paint. I distressed the edges of the strips with Black Soot distress paint. And then I cut each individual piece to attach it to the house. Oh, and the house was painted with black gesso before I added the siding, windows, roof pieces. I haven't worked with the rock candy crackle paint very much - I thought it would be too shiny for this project and the Picket Fence crackle paint is perfect.

I LOVE your fabulous house Lucy, it is amazing!! It really does look decrepit (in the best possible way!) and I love the effect the crackle paint gives. I have done a couple of experiments with mine so far but I have to say I prefer your version... I am so glad you left a comment on my blog (thank you!) otherwise I would never have found you and seen this gorgeous house - we seem to have similar tastes. Love your project!!
