Two paper fairy houses in the woods

Learn to make an easy Fairy House out of cardboard or card stock. Today is Day 1 of the Whimsical Fairy House challenge: 12 Days of Fanciful Fairy House designs.

For this first day, we're going to make 2 simple shapes - a circular shape and a hexagon shape - that can easily be turned into all sorts of enchanting tiny fairy abodes. Use your imagination to bring your house to life.

This post contains some affiliate links for your convenience. Click here to read my full disclosure policy.

Let's go over what supplies you need to make a fairy house.

SUPPLIES TO CONSTRUCT YOUR EASY FAIRY HOUSES

  • Cardboard is absolutely my favorite material for making houses - 22 point cardboard is the cardboard that I have been using.
  • Card stock - I prefer 110# card stock for extra strength for structure of the little houses, but 65# card stock but the structure won't be as strong.
  • Gesso primer for painting cardboard. It really helps the paint adhere better.
  • Acrylic paint for painting cardboard, card stock, and decorative elements
  • Spray stain for the decorative elements. Spray stain just makes the greatest leaves and flowers.
  • Glue choices - Quick Dry Tacky Glue or Bearly Art Glue are my favorites
  • Hot Glue - I use that to hold the roof stem in place
  • Other options for your houses - You can use things like oatmeal boxes, Pringles containers, or even toilet paper rolls to make fairy houses
  • A way to cut out the materials - I use my Cricut Maker, but you can use other cutting machines including the Cricut Joy for these patterns.

MATERIALS FOR DECORATING THE FAIRY HOUSES

  • Cheese boxes for bases
  • Wood slices for fairy house bases
  • Coffee stirrers for wood walls
  • Paper clay
  • Crepe paper is a great option for petals
  • Heavy watercolor paper for flowers - takes paint and stain well (if you want to paint your flowers rather than using card stock)
  • Tiny seashells
  • Moss
  • Cotton mushrooms
  • Peg dolls
  • Natural materials like acorn caps, pine cone scales, rocks for pathways, twigs, dried leaves or flowers, just take a walk outside and see what you can find.
