Materials to Make the Fairy Cottage
For this adorable little house I am using cardboard, but you can certainly use card stock. I do think it is a little trickier to use card stock simply because it is a bit challenging to glue the curved roof on the curved gables. Not impossible, but a little more challenging.
Here's a list of the materials for this house:
- Cardboard - I've already mentioned that cardboard is my preference for this house - 22 point cardboard
- Card stock - Use 110# card stock for extra strength for structure of this fairy cottage
- Gesso primer for priming cardboard. It really helps the paint adhere better and provides a good base so your paint colors will show better
- Acrylic paint for painting cardboard, card stock, and decorative elements. My favorite brand is Ranger's Distress Paints by Tim Holtz. I just love the color palette and how much color variation you get with these paints.
- Glue choices - Quick Dry Tacky Glue or Bearly Art Glue work well on this house.
- A way to cut out the materials - I use my Cricut Maker, but you can use other cutting machines including the Cricut Joy Xtra for these patterns. This pattern is slightly too large for the Cricut Joy though.
Outline of Steps for Making the Fairy Cottage

- Cut out the pattern. I use my Cricut Maker for this step.
- Fold along all the score lines on your cottage pieces.
- Glue the main structure of the Fairy House together by applying glue along the side glue tab.
- Next, apply glue to the top of the roof flaps. Line both roof flaps up exactly and glue the top portion of each roof flap together.
- Push the roof flaps down slightly so they provide support for the front and back gables.
- Apply glue to the edge of the roof flaps to adhere them to the front and back sides of the Fairy Cottage.
- Make the chimney piece by applying glue to the side glue tab.
- If using cardboard, I recommend priming the cardboard with gesso primer at this time. If using card stock, this step is not necessary.
- Paint before you glue the roof to the Fairy Cottage. I'm a messy painter so paint my pieces before I glue everything together.
- Before you glue the roof to the cottage, gently curve the roof piece so it will adhere to the curved gables on the roof.
- Apply glue along the curved gable edges and adhere the roof piece to the house. I find painter's tape to be very useful to hold the roof in place while the glue dries.
- Once the roof is in place, glue the chimney to the curved roof.
- Decorate your house with flowers or natural materials.
- Glue to the base.
- Enjoy your lovely little Fairy Cottage.

Lucy
Lynn,
I just checked my files and I was able to upload all of the files. Are you on a Cricut Joy? The Fairy Cottage is too large for a Cricut Joy.
Please let me know so I can help you. You can email me - [email protected] so I can help you better.
