When I was asked to be a part of an online card making event, I made a Holiday House pop-up card. And after that project, I kept thinking of so many other pop-up house designs that I could do. That lead me to write Playful Pop-Up Houses, a pop-up book with 5 main pop-up house designs. But what is unique is that each design has different houses you can use with that particular design.
Table of Contents
All of the projects in the Playful Pop-Up Houses Book are designed to be used with a cutting machine.
Please note that all of these projects are designed to be used with a cutting machine like a Cricut Maker, Cricut Explore Air, or a Silhouette Cameo or a Brother ScanNCut.
I don't want you to be mislead and buy the book thinking that it is easy to make these cards by hand.
Can you cut these patterns from the Playful Pop-Up Houses book out by hand?
Yes, it is possible, but I do not recommend it. There are incredible paper artists who cut amazing designs by hand, but it's not for me. My Cricut Maker is what I use.
Here are the five main patterns in the Playful Pop-Up Houses Book:
Basic Pop-Up Card
This pop-up card is based on a parallelogram or box design that collapses flat when you close the card.
Triple Peak House Pop-Up Card
Here's how it looks from the side so you can get an idea of how the 3 peaks go together.
Below are Christmas window variations for the Triple Peak Pop-Up card.
The Freestanding House Pop-Up Card
The Freestanding House card is my favorite, I think. I've made some similar cards in the past, but this pop-up card is even more fun.
For this design, there are two versions in the book - one house is taller with siding and the other is made to look like brick with a mortar overlay. In addition, there are two sets of siding - one is kind of wonky for a Halloween version and one is neat for regular siding on a house.
Here's an example of a similar card I made with a modified Tim Holtz village dwelling house.
This video shows you how the freestanding pop-up house looks when you open it.
Simple Box Fold Pop-Up Card
The fun thing about this house pop-up card is the sense of perspective. It is one of the easier house pop-up cards from the book.
The pop-up mechanism is simply a box that folds flat. The nice thing about this card is that it stands up so nicely for display. There is also a gift card pocket you can add to the back of the card.
Easel Fold Card
This is the simplest pop-up card in the Playful Pop-Up Houses book. Sometimes you need a quick and easy paper craft that still packs a punch.
What House Designs are in the Playful Pop-Up Houses Book?
The book includes 6 main house designs that work with 3 of the pop-up patterns.
The Triple Peak pattern and the freestanding houses each have two designs.
Oh, and I included the Holiday House pattern as well as a bonus.
What about Seasonal Decor in the Playful Pop-Up Houses Book?
To make it easy for you to customize your little house cards for any occasion, I've included 3 SVG cut files based on seasons.
Here's the Spring and Summer Decor
And how about some fall decor too?
Finally, you must have some Winter and Christmas elements as well.
I hope that gives you an idea of what is included in the Playful Pop-Up Houses book. If you like these cards, you can go to my shop to purchase the book.
