These are all the pieces for the doghouse ornament. The only score lines are on the body of the house, the base insert and the roof piece. If you want to hang the ornament, be sure to choose the roof piece with holes in it.
Several years ago I made a pattern for a doghouse that I loved, but it's kind of big. I figured that a smaller doghouse ornament would be a great addition for Christmas. You can even cut out a small photo of your own pet to fit in front of the doghouse ornament. I actually don't have great photos of my own pets so I'm going to use some tiny glass figures for doghouse ornaments.
Another idea is to make these as a fundraiser for an animal shelter. Wouldn't that be fun to do good while you get to craft?
The Christmas doghouse ornament is Design No. 206 in the free Paper Glitter Glue library. If you don't already have the password to the free library, just subscribe to my newsletter with the form below and you will get the password right away.
The doghouse is 4 inches tall, 2.5 inches wide, and 1.5 inches deep. The base is 3.5 inches in diameter.

- Cardboard (I prefer cardboard) or cardstock
- Paint and primer if using cardboard
- Glue - I use Aleene's Tacky Glue for cardboard and Bearly Art Glue for cardstock
- Pet figure or photo cutout
- A way to cut out the project - I use my Cricut Maker, but other cutting machines will work
Steps to Make the Doghouse Ornament
- Download Pattern No. 206 from the Paper Glitter Glue library
- Cut out the pattern pieces
- If using cardboard, prime and paint the cardboard
- If you want to add siding, cut out the siding pieces and adhere to the body of the doghouse. It's easiest to do this before assembly of the house
- Assemble the house by gluing along the side glue tab
- Next, glue down the roof tabs to the roof flaps
- To complete the main structure of the doghouse, glue the base insert within the doghouse. This piece ensures that the structure remains square.
- If you want shingles on your doghouse, apply them to the roof before gluing the roof to the doghouse.
- If you are making a hanging ornament with shingles on the roof, be sure to poke a hole through the top shingles
- Adhere the roof to the doghouse body.
- Glue the circular base to the bottom of the doghouse
- Decorate with a tiny figure or photo of your pet or favorite animal.
I'll fill in the tutorial with photos and more explanations later.
