Fairy House covered with snowflakes on snowy background

LEARN HOW TO MAKE A WINTER WONDERLAND FAIRY HOUSE

This is a perfect little house to make for winter with glittery snowflakes for the roof, windows, and door. Here's how to make the Winter Wonderland Fairy House.

This is no. 10 in the 12 days of the Fairy House challenge. It's perfect for the Winter season from Christmas to February.

Watch this video to learn how to make the Winter Wonderland Fairy House on my Paper Glitter Glue YouTube channel! Be sure to subscribe to my channel so you know when I post another new paper craft project.

Materials to Make the Winter Wonderland Fairy House

  • Card stock - Because I wanted a shiny, sparkly wintry effect for this fairy house, I used foil and glitter card stock. These card stocks come in 65# weight which worked well for this house
  • Cardboard - you know that cardboard is my favorite material for making houses - 22 point cardboard works well. I did not choose cardboard for this house. I like the glitter and foil card stocks better for the wintry effect
  • Gesso primer if you chose to use cardboard for this house
  • Acrylic paint for painting cardboard
  • Glue options - Quick Dry Tacky Glue for the structure of the cardboard house or Bearly Art Glue for gluing card stock together.
  • A way to cut out the pieces, I use my Cricut Maker but you can use other cutting machines to make this Fairy House
  • Deboss tool to give a woodgrain pattern to the foil card stock base

Steps to Make the Wintry Delight Fairy House

  1. Download the free pattern from the Paper Glitter Glue library - Design No. 163
  2. Choose the basic house structure for your Fairy House:
Circular Fairy House - Design No. 155
Hexagon Fairy House - Design No. 155
Fairy Cottage - Design No. 156
All of these patterns are free in the library. I chose to use the Circular Fairy House for my version of this project
  3. Cut out the pattern for the house and the roof and the snowy decor
  4. You can use cardboard for this house if you choose. If so, prime and paint your house pieces
  5. For the snowy decor, I used glitter card stock
  6. Glue the house structure together
  7. Make a Snowflake-shaped base for the Winter Fairy House
  8. It works best to glue the house to the base before decorating
  9. Apply snowflakes randomly on the roof
  10. Glue the snowflake-shaped windows and door to the front of the Fairy House
  11. Decorate around the snowflake base, if desired
  12. Share your winter creation!

1. Download the Pattern for the Winter Wonderland - Design No. 163

This pattern for the snowflakes and wintry decor for your Fairy House is free in the Paper Glitter Glue library. My files are available in 2 formats - SVG cut files for cutting machines like the Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore and PDF files you can print out.

2. Choose the Fairy House Shape

For most of the patterns in this series, you have 3 choices of Fairy Houses structures that work with these patterns.

Here are the 3 shapes of Fairy Houses in this series. Choose one of the 3 an cut out the pieces.

The Circular Fairy House

The Hexagon-shaped Fairy House

And the Fairy Cottage

Any of these house shapes works for the Winter Wonderland Fairy house. I just liked the Circular house best for this particular design.

3. Cut out the pattern for the Winter Wonderland Fairy House

I chose to use the roof option with scalloped edges (shown in pink below).

The other thing I used on this file was the wood grain pattern and the Cricut Deboss tip to make the pattern on the foil card stock. I think it makes the foil card stock more interesting.

I go over the details for cutting out this house pattern and the snowflake decor in the video. But I would like to note here - it takes A LONG TIME TO DEBOSS THE FOIL PAPER AND TO CUT OUT THE SNOWFLAKES. Really, it takes awhile - I didn't time it, but it takes at least an hour to cut out the snowflakes.

4. You can use cardboard for this house if you choose. If so, prime and paint your house pieces

5. For the snowy decor, I used glitter card stock

As I mentioned earlier, it takes a long time to cut out all the tiny snowflakes. I didn't time it, but I think it was at least an hour.

6. Glue the house structure together

Make the house structure while the snowflakes are being cut out. The circular house is a very simple structure that doesn't take long to construct at all.

7. Make a Snowflake-shaped base for the Winter Fairy House

Make the large snowflake-shaped base by gluing 2-3 layers of heavy duty card stock together, then covering it with one layer of the glitter card stock.

8. It works best to glue the house to the base before decorating

The house is more stable when it's glued to the base. Then it's easier to glue snowflakes to the roof when the structure is complete.

9. Apply snowflakes randomly on the roof

Glue the glitter paper snowflakes randomly to the roof.

10. Glue the snowflake-shaped windows and door to the front of the Fairy House

10. Decorate around the snowflake base, if desired

I just glued a snowflake to the end of each point on the snowflake-shaped base.
