Most Whimsical - No. 11 Karen's Dairy Scream Parlor - $25 Amazon Gift Card
I mean, really, a Dairy SCREAM Parlor? It's a concept that just makes me smile. Here's a close-up of the cars in the parking lot just to give you an idea of the amount of detail Karen put into this.
Most Innovative - No. 50 Corie's Baba Yaga House - $25 Amazon Gift Card
I love how she beautifully balanced the Baba Yaga House on chicken legs and then landscaped around them.
Most Creative - No. 20 Elizabeth's TWA Terminal Witch Aviation - $25 Amazon Gift Card
Elizabeth's entry was chosen because of how incredibly different and creative the roof shape is. Scroll to her entry No. 20 below to see how she came up with the design.

For the 10 and under kid's award, we chose the winner by a random drawing. Ella is this year's winner in the 10 and under.

This year's tasty award goes to Lu for her Candy Corn Cocoa Mug. It will make you hungry for sweets for sure.
Best Barn - No. 34 Nancy's Haunted Homestead - $25 Amazon Gift Card

What a great tribute to a beloved dog. Every detail is so well done.
Best Window Dressing - No. 49 Audrey's The House of Many Windows - $25 Amazon Gift Card
Audrey named this house perfectly - it has ton of windows that look great with eerie purple lighting behind them.
Most "Boo-Ti-Ful" House - No. 28 Shari's "Boo"-Ty Salon - $25 Amazon Gift Card
I just love this concept. Here's what Shari writes about making this "house":
I absolutely loved this challenge! Always wanted to do a 3D skull and once I had, I needed to turn it into a house. All cardstock except the base which was cardboard. I think my favourite aspect are the eyelashes!
SEE ALL ENTRIES FOR THE 2024 HALLOWEEN HOUSE CONTEST (CONTEST RULES BELOW THE ENTRIES.)
Here we have posted all of the entries for this year's contest. We hoped to post them as they were submitted, but the contest is finished and we are still without conventional internet access, so we spent most of the time trying to catch up.
(We have six very young artists who submitted houses. Please show them some love. We wish them a lifetime of happiness and creative fulfillment.)
Here's the YouTube video showing all the houses.
1. Mandi - Cross Creek Cemetery Estate
If you are able to circumvent the scary ghosts, you can begin to appreciate the quality of Mandi's Cross Creek Cemetery Estate. What a wonderfully distressed structure, with great colors.
2. Melanie - Whose House is it Anyway
Melanie's fine creation places a spooky witch with a hissing cat and glorious pumpkins in this Halloween tour de force.
3. Nicole - 3D Haunted House
If you really want your haunted house to stand out, do as Nicole has done and emphasize its three dimensional aspects with brilliant light. Mesmerizing.
4. Judy - Twisted Thicket Retirement Village
Some of my all-time favorite Halloween submissions are of villages which might feature an entire ensemble of unique houses and delightful features. Judy's Twisted Thicket Retirement Village demonstrates the concept so well.
5. Dee Ann - Purple Halloween House
Dee Ann's Purple Halloween House makes such fine use of the colors, with delightful spider webs, ghost, raven and scarecrow embellishments.
6. Gerard - Spooky House
I can't decide which witch (hard to say!) I like best, the one riding the broomstick or the one riding the bicycle! In any case, both fit very well in the scene of this colorful Halloween House by Gerard.
7. Cheryl - Widow's Walk
Cheryl's Widow's Walk counsels us to keep out, and I am more than willing! Look at the ghosts and the scary jack-o-lantern!
8. Karen - Skelly's Coffin House
There are so many cool features to Skelly's Coffin House, where should we begin? The fence itself is magical, but the coffins and the bone motifs are really set off by the magnificent hanging moon.
9. Beth - Bones the Skeleton's Spooky House
No one is going to convince me that Bones the Skeleton's Spooky House is not haunted! No matter, I will never pass those spider webs!
10. Shari - Widow's Web Whisks Potent Potions
Shari's creation is a master class in project naming. Widow's Web Whisks Potent Potions? Delightful! I can see the potions in the apothecary now. And look at the horse and carriage! Wow.
11. Karen - Dairy Scream Parlor
I would have taken bets. You cannot make ice cream scary. Karen has done it, however. This must be where Norman Bates goes. And the pickup is parked on top of somebody! So creative.
12. Donna - The Black Cat Cafe
Drink up Witches! The black cats are on the prowl! This submission has terrific color, but the striking thing, to me, is the different levels and layers. Treats at every elevation throughout.
13. Elizabeth - Booville
I have always been a fan of villages in these contests. One of the main things they add is, even in and perhaps particularly in holidays, it is all about community, as Elizabeth has captured here. Perhaps everyone is indoors on an unusually cold evening, but the lights and the proximity of the buildings speak to their presence.
14. Karen - Widow's Walk Mansion
Karen's Widow's Walk has such remarkable textures. The colorful roof almost seems quilted. No way I am entering a house stepping over the legs of a holiday corpse. I really admire the super realistic tree.
15. Mandi - Maitland House
Call the authorities! The Loch Ness Monster has escaped and made its appearance in Mandi's imaginative Halloween scene.
16. Donna - Peaceful Passage Casket House
Sometimes caskets look so scary, it's hard to imagine them being associated with peaceful passage! That's the case with Donna's lovely Peaceful Passage Casket House. Great colors as well.
17. Shari - Widow Web Wistfully Waits for Wayward Warrior's Wreturn
Once again Shari kills with a terrific name. But please also look at the great landscaping around this house! Beautiful cemetery stones and elevation profile. Love it.
18. Brenda - Spooktacular Village
Brenda's excellent Spooktacular Village has so many cool elements, it is hard to see them all at once! Five unique Halloween houses, delightfully staggered, with exceptional embellishments to fill out the scene.
19. Kathy - Flourish and Blotts Bookstore
I think this is one of the nicest bookstores I have ever seen. Clearly Flourish and Blotts have it going on! Look at that siding and the magnificent hanging signs!
20. Elizabeth - TWA Terminal (Witch Aviation Terminal)
If you want to talk about a cool idea, how about an airport terminal where witches take off and land?! While we couldn't show it in a single photo, one side is decorated for arrivals and one for takeoffs. Look at the congestion in the airspace above.
This is what Elizabeth wrote about her imaginative entry:
This design was inspired by the mid century modern Trans World Flight Center built in 1962 at the JKF airport in NYC.
It's been reimagined as The Witch Aviation (TWA) Terminal. It's prominent wing-shaped thin shell roof make the perfect backdrop for witches in flight. The open three-level space with tall windows offers views of departing and arriving Witch Flights. This area also offers a showcase of the latest technology in super sonic brooms, for the discerning witch pilots.
21. Deborah - Vampire Apparel
The idea of an establishment offering apparel for vampires never occurred to me! So imaginative! Go here, vampires! Deborah's staff will fix you up!
22. Melanie - Never Trust the Living
Melanie's Never Trust the Living Mansion looks to have nested widow walks, to go with the spookiest, eeriest tree ever, that watches you more ominously than the Mona Lisa ever could. The fence is magnificent, along with all the ghosts, ravens and other nifty touches.
23. Kayleigh - Hadley Haunted House
The Hadley Haunted house presents a wealth of deep color, to go with a lovely ghost shielded by the fence. I really like the detail on the house, filled with skulls.
24. Lilly (Age 2) - Lilly's Spooky Bat House
When the coming generation can produce a house as cute as this, as Lilly has done, we know that the future of creativity is in excellent hands. Well done, Lilly! Please keep creating!
25. Donna - Barkside Manor
If you find yourself doubting the reality of human creativity, just come to a PGG (PaperGlitterGlue) contest and look at the entries. Donna has selected our canine friends for inclusion in this ingenious entry. Neat touches abound. "Bone appetit." "Happy Howl-O-Ween!" The manor is beautiful and just look at the tree!
26. Amanda - The Metaphysical Muse
Advertised as your one-stop shop for seances and conjurings, this muse structure looks metaphysical and mystical, indeed. The color and lighting sets it off so well.
27. Mandi - Bye Bye, Bessie
Halloween brings a wealth of unconventional characters and apparitions, but what happens when extraterrestrials get involved? I think Bessie is about to find out! (An alternate view shows the ensemble sitting in the lap of a skeleton!)
28. Shari - The "BOO"ty Salon
Shari's "BOO"ty Salon is just a terrific entry. I love the crossbones walkway, with the salon services featuring things like bone cracking, lava loofa and Goblin mud bath! Such a unique house!
29. Deborah - Skellie's Butchery
Skellie's Butchery is frightening, indeed! It looks as if the shop 'wares' are prominently displayed on the outside walls! And what a scary jack-o-lantern head critter beside the building! Scary!
30. Jodie - Marjorie's Moonlit Hideaway
Jodie's creation sets a remarkable scene, with Marjorie's caravan ensconced in this magical enchanted forest, great artistry and rich color.
31. Lu - Halloween Spookeasy
Introducing Debutant Dollface behind the wheel, parked in front of the Speakeasy owned by Owl Capone ... It's a stunning place, but I'm not going in there ...
32. Shannon - Treasure Valley Carnival featuring the Neon Dreams Fun House
How can you include so much delightful detail in a Halloween scene? Make it a carnival! Such great color and a mass of riches that must have taken many hours. Beautiful. I would go to that carnival. Just stay away from the huge spider.
33. Cheryl - The House of Shadows
I think the contrast of the Halloween witches and sprites against the house is remarkable, only further enhanced by the glorious sky. The tree limbs blend right into the roof, talk about integrated.
34. Nancy - Haunted Homestead
You can never go wrong including a barn with your house. Look how well it complements the lovely house. You can see the cat is staying away from the ghosts and apparitions.
35. Joan - Raven's Roost Inn
This stunning inn has it all, even a limo for the airport! I like that the multi-colored siding is so mellow. It doesn't rob it of any of its richness and texture. Such a beautiful roof. Even the pumpkin on the porch is astonished!
36. Melanie - Claim Your Coffin
One of the coolest things about Melanie's Coffin 'House' Is how clearly it showed me I suffer from non-undead privilege. Do you see how imaginatively she created the lid embellishments?
37. Ella (age 10) - Vampire Villa
I am a big fan of Ella's Vampire Villa. Placing it before (what looks to be) a tombstone inscribed to Pure Evil is an inspired choice. Setting it there allowed the light to shine through in a uniquely luminous way. Very creative, indeed, Ella! Good job! Keep making houses!
38. Tonya - Cursed Peak House
Tonya's fine Cursed Peak House makes so clear how well certain colors work with Halloween themes. Marvelous work with the lighting to show off this fine house.
39. Sally - Come in For a Spell
I find myself captivated by this really cool house. For me the roof is magnificent, and the house framing built around trees, and the rock work and the steps and the door. It really works as an integrated scene.
40. Maxwell (age 13) - Lair of Doom - Spike's Castle
With all of the other anti-heroes of Halloween, it is easy to forget just how terrifying a malevolent dragon can be! This one has already wrought havoc, and it looks like he is just getting started! Fine creation, Maxwell.
41. Diana - Spider Hollow
This spooky scene is spider-intense! Even the lighting around the fence is ominous spiders.
42. Eileen - Home From the Harvest
Sometimes houses have colors that conflict with each other, but I think the colors in this entry - rich and varied - work together very well, from the harvest of pumpkins to the wonderful blue roof, the fencing and the trees are exceptional also.
43. Audrey - BOO Halloween House
This house has so many wonderful features. Though it isn't easy to see head-on, the roof is beautiful. The green shadings are woven together quite brilliantly and the stage is set by the stunning fence.
44. Cheryl - Monster Maw House
You know a house is scary, when you have to close your eyes to post it! I hope you were not impaled while constructing that, Cheryl.
45. Gina - Castle GreyBell
From Gina's own description: The wizard attacks! Casting his spell from top of the castle He summons the creepy, slithering, and crawling, along with magical familars from deep within the forrest. He going to do battle with the village ...
46. Tonya - Grimstone Manor with Graveyard
Ghosts, creepy crawlies, bats, gravestones before a massive spiderweb backdrop, what more could you want in a great Halloween scene.
47. Lu - Candy Corn Cocoa Mug
Candy Corn holds a special place in the hearts of so many of us who love Halloween, and with Lu's magical little mug, it's easy to see why. Delightful creation!
48. Gina - The Neighbor's Blow-up Lawn Ornaments Haunted Mansion
Look at what a lovely Halloween scene you can create with blow-up ornaments and strategic lighting. Wonderful colors, Gina.
49. Audrey - The House of Many Windows
For me it is not so much that the house has so many windows as it is how beautiful they are, with the stunning purple lighting. I think the pumpkins are wonderfully placed, and the flying guests are my favorite.
50. Corie - Baba Yaga House
What is scariest to me about Corie's clever entry is the legs! How do you keep the house from running off before it is finished? So cool.
51. Tonya - The Haunted Bloodmoon Castle
I can surely see where the Haunted Bloodmoon Castle got its name! Ominous, indeed. What is the history of the bloodmoon?
52. Sherry - Bone Chill B&B
The title says it - Bone Chill B&B, but just look at how chill those skeletons are, lounging about! That would scare me more than anything! Halloweeny setting.
53. Audrey - Custom Halloween House
Boarding up windows, who does that! It works very well on this house. I love the skeleton with the witch hat on. Maybe it was originally a witch palming a pumpkin-shaped basketball?
54. Shannon - Celeste Hotel
Shannon's Celeste Hotel demonstrates how well more modern design accommodates such a quirky holiday. I think those are two of the most intriguing trees anyone has used, but they add so much to the color palette.
55. Ashton (age 11) - Spooky Ghoul Time House
Ashton doubled down on the Halloween effects for his house. He added colored vellum in the windows, so the house glows eerily from within. Then he added the homemade caution tape, a graveyard, and a giant spider as frightening finishing pieces that tie it all together.
56. Mason (age 11) - Halloween Fun House
57. Bella (age 12) - Creepily Creative House
Bellla used black hot glue to create cobwebs and flying bats. And polymer clay to make the pumpkins and a tire swing. It makes a nice Halloween ensemble.
Joy of Creation
We created a new category for contests this year, houses submitted just for the joy of creation. We hope everyone has experienced that joy in this contest. But please enjoy these houses submitted in the Joy of Creation category, not competing for any prizes.
JOC #1. Amy - Jack and Sally's Vacation Home
To me, this house smiles with the joy of creative exploration and play. Look at the foundation of this house! That site will last much longer than the house! I particularly love the bats embossed in the fencing. So nice.
JOC#2. Julie - Country Road Not-too-Spooky Halloween House
For me, Julie's house shouts boldly the joy of Halloween houses. You guys have created them, what do you think?
2024 Halloween House Contest Rules
This house, Judy's 13 Spooky Lane, won the first prize in the 2023 contest. Judy did a great job. Everyone loves this house because it is absolutely chock full of spooky details.

Rules for the 2024 Miniature Halloween House Contest
1. Have fun.
Really, the entire purpose of this is to have fun and to share the fun. Simply make a house that expresses a Fall or Halloween season theme or atmosphere and enjoy the process, the fine company.
To emphasize this point, the contest period is now open to what we call "Joy of Creation' submissions. Every year we seem to have more members who just want to participate in the creative challenge, not the contest itself. We applaud this mindset, because it reflects the spirit of our group so well, where the greatest satisfaction is found in creation of little houses and scenes and in the sharing of that with friends.
Another possibility, as noted in Rule 8, you may enter up to three houses in the competition.
The Joy of Creation Option
However, we welcome additional Joy of Creation submissions because you may not be interested in competing for prizes - you just like to create. We want to see and appreciate what you make. We are not setting any limit on such submissions. Just please add the tag #JoyOfCreation when you post them.
2. Name Your Design
First NAME YOUR DESIGN! This helps the judges (and contest visitors) remember each design. It also adds to the design.
It's much better for those viewing your creation if it has a name. Some of the names of the previous submissions are incredibly creative. Naming your design enhances your submission, and is an avenue of creative expression in its own right.
PLEASE WRITE A SENTENCE OR TWO (OR TEN!) ABOUT YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS AS WELL, YOUR INSPIRATION AND THE LIKE. MANY PEOPLE REQUEST THIS BECAUSE THEY WANT TO LEARN FROM YOU.
3. Three Ways to Enter the 2024 Miniature Halloween House Contest
a) Post your house in the Paper Glitter Glue Facebook group with the tag #2024MiniHalloweenHouse. Please join this Facebook group so you can enter there. It's the best way to enter. (This is safest to insure your submission is captured without issue.)
b) Email me a photo on or after September 19. The address is [email protected]. Please include the title 2024 Mini Halloween House in your email title so I can find the photo easily and include it as an official submission.
c) Follow me on Instagram and post your 2024 Halloween house and tag me @lucyf7b on Instagram.
A note about submissions. It often happens that folks share their houses in the Facebook group prior to the beginning of the contest. That is fine, just please remember to either re-post it once the contest opens, or send me an email with a link to the submission. We won't really start scanning for official entries prior to the start of the contest. But the house does have to be made this calendar year.
4. Permission to Post Your House Photo on my website and on social media.
In submitting your creations, you are giving me permission to post a picture or pictures of your project on my website and social media just like I did for the Easter house contest earlier this year. I love to share your projects because they are all so incredible. This allows all site visitors and guests to see your creations, which can help inspire them in turn. Our usual convention is to post only first names with the house names with no personal information.
5. Size Limitation for the 2024 Miniature Halloween House Contest
Here are the size limitations:
Base - no limitation on the base so you can landscape as much as you want, but the size of the house does have limitations
House height - no taller than 10 inches tall
House width - no wider than 10 inches
Depth of the House - no deeper than 8 inches
Villages or small groups of houses are welcome as long as each house is no bigger than the measurements listed above.
Note: It is much harder to take in all the details in one photo. We need one photo for the judges to look at. Post as many as you like, but for the judging we usually have room just to include one photo.
6. Use any pattern you like
For your entries, you can use your own pattern, my patterns, patterns from my friend, Jackie of A Cottage in the Forest, Tim Holtz houses, or even a purchased pattern.
7. The house must be made of cardboard or cardstock
Your house needs to be paper-based - made out of cardboard or card stock. No wooden houses. But you can use other materials for the base, landscape, and embellishments.
8. Creativity and Originality are emphasized
Creativity and originality are important and will be emphasized in judging. Hint: Let the fun shine through!
Also creativity in naming your house helps to make it more special. Please tell us a little bit about your house - how you made it, what inspired it, etc. We all love to read about the creative inspiration behind your projects.
9. You may enter up to 3 houses, but the houses must be unique and constructed in 2024
Up to three submissions, all of houses created in this calendar year. (Again, note, this rule does not restrict submission 'Joy of Creation' houses, which are not eligible for prizes.)
10. How to Vote for the People's Choice Award for this Year's Contest.
You will have one vote when you post a comment at the end of this post AFTER ALL THE ENTRIES ARE IN, VOTING STARTS ON OCTOBER 24TH and lasts until October 26th. And you have another vote on my YouTube channel. Subscribe to get notifications of when we post the contest video. Please note this is intended to be about fun and creativity, not competition. Vote for your choices, but please don't 'stuff the ballot box.'
GET THE KIDS INVOLVED MAKING A MINIATURE HALLOWEEN HOUSE!
The Fall and Halloween season is a great family season. We always love to see house submissions from your children (in two categories this year! Ages 10 & under and 11-16. Please note their age with the submission so we can get them properly entered in the correct category). Allow their youthful creativity to flow. The names of the children's submissions will be placed in a hat and drawn randomly. Those submissions aren't - and should not be - competitive. They should have fun with no other concerns! But we love encouraging them to exercise their imaginations and creative skills.
Note: Prizes in children's submissions in the two age categories will be by random drawings. No competitive pressure! No value judgments.
So that is the Halloween House Contest for this year. Whatever you do, enjoy it! Enjoy making your houses and sharing them. That's what it is all about.
Deadline for the 2024 Miniature Halloween House Contest is October 23rd.
Deadline for photo entries is October 23rd and the winners will be announced on October 27th.
And if you would like more inspiration ...
Here are links to the previous four Halloween contests. They have some terrific entries! Ours is such a creative group. Be sure to check them out!

Becky Turinic
I like No. 1 the best. It has a fantastic dilapidated, about to fall down look. It reminds me of a house we would avoid while trick or treating when I was a kid.
Jean

(I thought I already voted here but I don't see my entry -- please ignore this if my vote already "took"!)
Lucy
I see your earlier vote.

Lucy
Jean

#35- Raven’s Roost Inn. The colors and details are amazing!

Brenda R
Difficult choice but my vote goes to #4 Judy Twisted Retirement Village.
Marlane Gutzwiller
My favorite is #43 Audrey-BOO Halloween House. I absolutely love the spooky house in the forest vibe. I always prefer the simpler, uncluttered yet skillfully constructed entries.
Bianca Mitchell
Possibly too late (distracted from voting by imminent birth of newest grandbaby:) but my vote has to go to No.17. The poignancy of the ghost 'widow' on the Widow's Walk combined with the beautiful house and grounds takes me right back to the homes near Bayou Teche - I always found those houses spooky no matter the season! I now live in NE Scotland, it's been over 40 years since my SE LA days so the wee reminder is lovely:)
As for the children's category, surely my winner has to be No.24 - if the maker is that talented aged two what will she be doing in the future?
Lucy
You're not too late. I am collating votes now.
I know what you mean about the 2 year old's entry. That is so cool that she wanted to make a house. And she had specific creative ideas to bring to life. It's impressive.
Lucy
Shari
Thank you Bianca, I really enjoyed making it
Katrina Rollings
Wow, what wonderful spooky houses! My vote is 16 Peaceful Passage Casket House.
Barbara
4. Judy - Twisted Thicket Retirement Village I love this one the most. All are really Awesome too.
Wendy Kincade
MY MOST FAVORITE ENTRIES
Apparently, I share Mandi’s sense of humor, as my top three favorites are hers:
• 1. Mandi - Cross Creek Cemetery Estate – Love it
• 15. Mandi - Matiland House - Hysterical
• 27. Mandi - Bye Bye, Bessie – Laugh every time I look at it
And while my favorite of Mandi’s three is “Bye, Bye, Bessie”, my Halloween vote goes to:
“Cross Creek Cemetery Estate” – the best Halloween-themed and my favorite overall.
Every one of the 57 + 2 entries were awesome and well done. I have lots of favorites and love everyone’s great work. The kids’ projects were amazing.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
There are several entries that I believe deserve honorable mentions. Their craftsmanship is A+ and the finished projects are top notch; they just needed a little more Halloween-theme to get my vote. The entries are:
o 19. Kathy - Flourish and Blotts Bookstore
o 25. Donna - Barkside Manor
o 39. Sally - Come in For a Spell
o 50. Corie - Sugar Bird Hollow
o 54. Shannon - Celeste Hotel
Great work everyone. I wish I had had time to make a few and join the competition. Maybe next year.
Lucy
I agree that these are incredible little houses. Thank you for giving me a list and letting me hear your honorable mentions. That means a lot to everyone.
Thank you.
